JAMAICA, QUEENS — The MTA's new tap-to-pay fare system is expanding to Jamaica. The contactless payment option, known as OMNY, will be available at the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue E/J/Z subway station starting next month, the transit authority announced Tuesday.

OMNY, which stands for "One Metro New York," will eventually replace the MetroCard. Instead of swiping in to stations, subway riders tap their credit card or smartphone wallet on the glowing screen attached to the turnstile.

The MTA plans to bring OMNY to all 472 subway stations and all bus routes by the end of next year, and the agency will introduce its own contactless transit card in 2021.

The MetroCard will be retired in 2023.

The new system launched in June on 4, 5 and 6 lines between Grand Central Terminal and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center.
