JAMAICA, NY — There's a brand-new affordable housing complex in town.
Officials on Tuesday celebrated the grand opening of a 14-story tower in Jamaica that 89 families now call home.
Developed by the Arker Companies, the Archer Avenue Apartments are available to households earning roughly $30,000 to $58,000 a year, according to a press release.

"We're thankful to stand here hand-in-hand with the community and local elected officials in celebration of a project that will create affordable housing with state-of-the-art amenities for families in Jamaica," Alex Arker, principal of The Arker Companies, said.
The building, located at 92-61 165th St., is already at 100-percent occupancy.

"Affordable housing in a predominant community of color is something we need to see more of," New York Assembly Member Alicia Hyndman said in a statement.
"With 100-percent affordability, we are easing the burden of the high cost of residing in this city and at least a portion of our constituents will have a little more to save and recycle into their communities," she added.
