Woman Killed By Jamaica Hit-And-Run Driver: Officials

A driver fatally struck a pedestrian in Jamaica Tuesday night, then jumped out of the car and ran away, authorities said.

JAMAICA, QUEENS — A driver fatally struck a pedestrian in Jamaica Tuesday night, then jumped out of the car and fled, authorities said.

The 60-year-old woman was crossing Archer Avenue near Sutphin Boulevard about 9:15 p.m. when a driver in a stolen 2009 Hyundai Sonata ran her over, then ditched the car and ran away, according to police and news reports.

EMS rushed the woman to Jamaica Hospital, but she couldn't be saved, police said.

A cop suffered a minor shoulder injury trying to pull the woman from underneath the car, the New York Post reported.

Police took a 38-year-old man into custody Tuesday night but released him after confirming they had the wrong man, according to PIX11 News.
