Lyft To Offer Free Rides To Queens Libraries To Escape Heat Wave

JAMAICA, QUEENS — Ride-hailing app Lyft has partnered with the Queens Public Library to provide free rides for people traveling to and from three library branches serving as cooling centers during this weekend's heat wave.

People traveling to and from the public libraries in Rochdale Village, Arverne and Corona are eligible for two free rides costing up to $15 by using the code NYCCOOL19.

The offer is valid until July 21 at 5 p.m.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has declared a heat emergency for this weekend, when temperatures could feel as hot as 110 degrees.

The city has compiled a map of public, air-conditioned centers where New Yorkers can go to keep cool this weekend.

Among them are 14 branches of the Queens Public Library, 11 of which will operate on a special schedule this Sunday to serve as cooling centers.
