Queens Teacher Arrested For Stealing $8K Worth Of School Supplies
A teacher was arrested for stealing more than $8,000 worth of school supplies from the southeast Queens public school where she works.

SPRINGFIELD GARDENS, QUEENS — A teacher was arrested Wednesday for stealing more than $8,000 worth of school supplies from the southeast Queens public school where she works, according to police and news reports.
Sherran Fields, 44, was busted the day before the start of the school year for swiping thousands of dollars worth of science curriculum materials from I.S. 59 in Springfield Gardens, the New York Post reported.
The theft happened on Aug. 21, according to the Post.

Police arrested the teacher Wednesday evening on charges of grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, the department said.

"This alleged behavior is completely unacceptable, and we reassigned this teacher away from students when we became aware of the allegation," NYC Department of Education spokesperson Danielle Filson said in a statement.
Fields was reassigned to a central office, according to the agency. She started working at the Queens middle school in 2006 and previously taught at J.H.S 194 William Carr in Whitestone.
