Cuffie's was reportedly the cousin and godsister of 14-year-old Aamir Griffin, who died on Oct. 26 after he was hit by a stray bullet while practicing basketball at the Baisley Park Houses, where he lived.

Cuffie, who had once lived with Griffin's family, moved back in with them to comfort them after his slaying, the New York Daily News reported.

She had been determined to find out who was responsible for Griffin's death, a cousin told the Daily News.

"She was devastated when he died, and she wanted to find answers," Trevor Mendez, 26, told the news outlet.

Cuffie was stabbed around the corner from where Griffin was hit by the bullet that killed him, according to police. It's unclear whether the two homicides are related.

Police have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Griffin's fatal shooting.
