QUEENS, NY — The brand-new TWA Hotel food court was shuttered by health inspectors this week after it flunked an inspection. The food court reopened Friday morning.

Violations included food from unapproved sources, hot food items not held at the proper temperature, no facilities to sanitize utensils or equipment, and food not protected from potential contamination, according to the health department.

A hotel spokeswoman said three of the food court's five health code violations were construction-related. She declined to comment further.

The food court closed for two days after it received 73 violation points in the May 21 inspection, health department records show. Inspectors close restaurants that get 28 points or above — the lower the score, the better.

The TWA Hotel at JFK International Airport opened on May 15, one week before its food court's failed inspection.

The new 512-room hotel complex transforms the former Trans World Airlines terminal, which was closed to the public for nearly two decades. The food court is located in the historic terminal's old departures hall.
