WATCH: Thief Chats Up, Robs 76-Year-Old Woman In Jamaica

Video shows the man look both ways before he began forcefully rummaging through her purse until retrieving her wallet.

JAMAICA, QUEENS -- Police are searching for a man who was caught on tape holding a 76-year-old woman down and stealing her wallet on Thursday, just moments after the two began chatting.

The two were talking at around 6 a.m. outside a house along Grand Central Parkway near 164th Street, the woman sitting down with a cane in hand and the man standing at the gate next to her, police said.

Surveillance footage shows the man look both ways before knocking the woman off balance and grabbing for her purse. He is seen forcefully unzipping the purse and rooting around inside it until retrieving a wallet, all while the woman struggled frantically beneath him.

The man fled with her wallet along with $80 cash, police said. The woman was not injured in the attack.

Police described the thief as a man with a beard who stands at around 5-foot-10 and weighs about 130 pounds. He wore his hair in a ponytail underneath a skull cap.
