79-Year-Old Man Dies After Kew Gardens Hills Crash: NYPD

The Queens man died from his injuries a day after he was hit by a car while crossing Jewel Avenue against the pedestrian signal, cops said.

KEW GARDENS HILLS, QUEENS -- A 79-year-old Queens man has died after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in Kew Gardens Hills on Monday night, police said.

Abdul Jamil was hit by a 2015 Honda Accord just before 10 p.m. when he attempted to cross Jewel Avenue outside the marked crosswalk less than a half mile from his home on 150 Street, cops said.

Officers arrived at the crash to find Jamil lying in the roadway with severe head trauma. Medics rushed him to New York Presbyterian Hospital of Queens, where he died of his injuries on Tuesday, police said.

NYPD Highway District investigators determined Jamil had tried to cross Jewel Avenue against the pedestrian signal and outside the 150 Street crosswalk when he was hit by a 31-year-old man driving through the intersection on a green light.

Police said the driver remained on scene after the crash. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
