Community Boards and Public Safety

Charter Review Commission 2019

Community Boards across the City continue to vote down safety recommendations made by the DOT. Bike Lanes, speed humps, traffic signals, intersection safety recommendations all should be reviewed and implemented with the Public Safety foremost. Community Board Traffic Safety Committees should not have the authority to overrule NYC DOT safety recommendations. These rulings by the Community Board are made in the interest of special interest groups and do not reflect the danger of what they are doing. The Charter Review Commission should review the authority of Community Boards to overrule safety recommendations and return full authority for the public safety to the professionals (DOT) and not special interests and Community Boards.
