Queens Woman Hit, Killed By School Bus In Kew Gardens: NYPD

Three children were inside the bus when it slammed into the Jamaica woman Tuesday morning, police say.

KEW GARDENS, QUEENS -- A Queens woman was hit and killed by a school bus carrying children in Kew Gardens on Tuesday morning, police said.

Elise Hellinger, 58, was crossing Kew Gardens Road near an intersection at 82nd Road at around 6:45 a.m. when she was mowed down by the private mini-school bus, cops told Patch.

Officers arrived at the scene to find Hellinger unconscious with head and body trauma. The Jamaica woman had allegedly been at a crosswalk when the crash occurred, police said.

Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Three children, ages 11-3, were aboard the bus along with the driver and their matron when the crash occurred, an NYPD spokesman said. None were injured during the crash.

The 24-year-old bus driver remained at the scene after the crash. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
