Kings Park Woman Raises Money To Buy Food For Hospital Staff
She launched a GoFundMe to raise money to buy food for two local hospitals' healthcare workers and support small businesses simultaneously.
KINGS PARK, NY — A Kings Park woman is attempting to raise money to feed those on the front lines of the new coronavirus. She also wants to support local businesses in the process.
Juliana Fetherman, 23, created a GoFundMe towards food donations to two local hospitals: Stony Brook University Hospital and St. Catherine of Siena Hospital in Smithtown. Fetherman launched the GoFundMe Tuesday morning, and said she hopes to get the food to the workers in the span of a week.

"I just always want to help," she told Patch. "I’m so bored at home, I figured I might as well use my time to try and make a difference in the lives of the people who are risking their lives to try and make this situation better."

As of Tuesday afternoon, nearly $200 of Fetherman's $1,000 goal has been reached; though exceeding the goal would be welcomed.
Once she has the donations, she intends to buy the food from small businesses in Kings Park and Smithtown, already naming Ciro's, an Italian restaurant in Kings Park she used to work for.
Ciro's offered to match up to $2,500 of received donations, Fetherman said.
"If I hit my goal of $1,000, then I’ll definitely try and support as many local businesses as possible," she said.
Fetherman is also working on developing Making Authentic Friendships, an app geared towards helping people with any disability or special need find new friends.
