Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Long Island

More severe weather may be on the way less than a week after storms caused nearly 100,000 power outages on the island.

The National Weather Service has issued the following hazardous weather outlook for Long Island:

There is a threat for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon into evening ahead of an approaching cold front. Strong to damaging wind gusts and flash flooding will be the main threats with this activity.

The full forecast:

Friday Night - Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind around 7 mph.

Saturday- Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Areas of fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night- Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2am, then a slight chance of thunderstorms after 4am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday- A slight chance of showers between 9am and noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. North wind around 9 mph becoming east in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 63. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Monday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.

Monday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.

Tuesday- Sunny, with a high near 85.
