UPDATE 9 a.m. Saturday: More Than 5,000 Power Outages on LI as Nor'easter Arrives
Officials are urging Long Islanders to secure loose outdoor items, particularly Halloween decorations, as a powerful nor'easter gets set to strike the region Saturday.
Numerous watches and warnings with regard to flooding and potentially damaging winds have been issued across the island.

High winds can cause flying debris, bring down trees and tree limbs and increase the possibility of downed wires and power outages, PSEG Long Island said on it Facebook page Friday, adding that the company works throughout the year to prepare for extreme weather and provide greater reliability that helps to prevent outages during storms.
The worst of the storm should be during the morning hours.

"The strongest winds, heavy rains and the high tides will all coincide which means it gets rough between 5am and 10am with peak winds probably between 7am and 9am," Joe Cioffi, a meteorologist for WPIX-TV and FiOS1 News, wrote on his website. "For Central and Eastern Long Island gusts to 60 mph or higher are not out of the question."
