A Hurricane Romance In Home Depot

"That's when I was sent to the returns counter, where I met the love of my life for the first time."

For this month's Love In A Small Town feature, we asked Patch readers to tell us the story behind their romantic chance encounters. This is Sal Larosa's story:

“I met my now fiancée at Home Depot. I had just bought a house and decided to refinish the hardwood floors instead of paying someone else to do it. I rented an industrial sander from the tool rental and bought a ton of sand paper. When I returned the machine, they were ready to close. I wanted to return my unused sand paper but the rentals register had already been closed out.

That’s when I was sent to the returns counter, where I met the love of my life for the first time. She was mad because she was ready to leave, and I had a big box of assorted unused sandpaper to return with minutes left until closing. Still, we talked a little bit and I left.

A couple months later Hurricane Sandy happened, and I was going to that same Home Depot almost every day because I was working on gutting a flooded house. I kept bumping into her and eventually we started talking more and more. The rest is history.

We are getting married this July after five years of being together. Never in my life did I think I would be so lucky to meet her, and in this day and age I never thought I would meet someone by chance the way I did.”
