New York is 2019's Best State For Police Officers: Report

A website ranked all 50 states to determine the best and worst areas to pursue a law-enforcement career.

NEW YORK - New York was ranked as the best state in the U.S. for police officers for 2019, according to a list compiled by WalletHub.

The website ranked all 50 states to determine the best and worst areas to pursue a law-enforcement career. Last year New York came in at No. 2, just behind North Dakota.

For 2019, Maryland followed New York as the second best state for police officers. WalletHub ranked Louisiana as the worst state for police.

The states were graded based on 25 factors of "police-friendliness" including median income for law-enforcement officers, number of police deaths and local police-protection expenses.

New York came in as No. 1 because it was among the top five states with the highest state and local police-protection expenses per capita as well as the top five states with the most law-enforcement officers per capita.

In addition, New York came in third in the list of states with the highest median income growth for law enforcement officers from 2017 to 2018.
