Obituary: Peter Thompson, Former Kings Park Coach, Dies At 56
The beloved former coach passed away on Dec. 31.

KINGS PARK, NY - Peter Thompson, a former Kings Park lacrosse coach, died after a battle with cancer on Dec. 31. He was 56.
Thompson was a resident of East Setauket.
The Kings Park native retired from the school district in 2016. He started working as a physical education teacher in 1985 and eventually went on to also coach junior varsity basketball team and varsity football during his career, Newsday reports.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy as well as his children Valerie and Paul. In addition Thompson is survived by his brothers Richard, Kevin, James, and Timothy.
“One of his colleagues told me that, the week after he retired, one of the kids at school came up to him and said ‘this school doesn’t have any life anymore without Mr. Thompson,’” Timothy told Newsday.

On RateMyTeacher.com, Thompson received plenty of 5-star reviews from former students.
"He's always making me laugh and smile...probably the best teacher," one student wrote in 2007.
Internment took place on Jan. 6 at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale.
