Road Closures Announced For Baseball Opening Day Ceremonies

This weekend there will be opening day ceremonies for local baseball/softball teams in Kings Park, Nesconset and St. James.

SMITHTOWN, NY - With baseball season in full swing, this upcoming weekend will mark the opening days for several local teams.

Residents of Kings Park, Nesconset and St. James are advised that there will be road closures in the area for opening day ceremonies and parade routes on Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15.

Officials warn locals to expect barricades at intersections along the parade routes for each opening day ceremony.

On Saturday the Kings Park Youth softball/baseball teams will be celebrating the opening day with a ceremony starting at 8:30 a.m.

The event will begin at the parking lot across from the Kings Park Fire Department and head west on Main Street before making a left on Pulaski Road (west) to Lou Avenue and turning right on Cedar Street.

The parade will then turn left to the Kings Park Memorial Park where the parade will end.

A total of 350 marchers, 1 band and 1 vehicle will be participating in the event.

Rain date for the parade is Sunday, April 15.

Also on Saturday, the Nesconset Athletic Association will be hosting a parade for the opening ceremoney for the softball/baseball teams.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. at Gibbs Pond Park.

The parade of 200 marchers will walk down Gibbs Pond Road to Browns Road Park.

Finally on Sunday the St. James/Smithtown little league will be hosting their opening day ceremony.

The event will begin at 12 p.m. at the northeast corner of Woodlawn and Lake at the old Capital One building.

The parade will then head west and turn onto Treadwell Avenue, making a left into Gaynor parking lot and ending at Gaynor Park.

A total of 500 marchers and 1 vehicle will be participating in the parade.

Rain date for the event is Saturday, April 21.
