Stormy Work Week Ahead For Long Island

If you come down with a case of the Mondays, it certainly won't be because of the weather. Sunny skies, a high near 80 and low humidity are in the forecast for the island.

But Mother Nature is fickle and doesn't want us to have too much of good thing.

"Humidity and warmth will build and the thunderstorm chances will return toward the middle of the week," AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore says.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain that could cause flooding will be possible on both Wednesday and Thursday, the National Weather Service says.

A cold front will finally move through on Friday, with high pressure building across the region into the weekend, and a return to seasonable temperatures and much lower humidity levels.

Sunday- A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Monday- Sunny, with a high near 81. Northeast wind around 8 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.

Monday Night- A 20 percent chance of showers after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Tuesday- A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. South wind around 8 mph.

Wednesday- A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 84.

Wednesday Night- A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.

Thursday- A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 85.

Thursday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 71.

Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.

Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 67.
