FIRST NATION: A Native American Journey Art by Robert Cotnoir

Artist Robert Cotnoir opens his first solo exhibit at the Larchmont Public Library titled FIRST NATION: A Native American Journey, in the library’s Oresman Gallery November 2. The exhibit will continue to be on view through November 29. Additionally, there will be a reception in the Gallery for Mr. Cotnoir on Saturday, November 10, from 2pm to 4pm. Everyone is invited.

Cotnoir’s art extends beyond his depictions of Native Americans and the Native American way of life. His artistic process is not to copy exactly what he sees, but to modify it in some way. His work can best be described as offbeat and unusual. Robert is inspired by steel and structure, and is comfortable working in both oil and acrylic. He is self-taught, and paints for the joy of the creative process.

In addition to his more traditional still life works and landscapes, and having worked in construction for over forty years, he was struck by the hidden art that the worker, equipment, and job sites could reveal. He choose to paint construction sites and industrial scenes that reveal this art to us all, using structure, form, and light. His love of the classic American automobile has inspired me even further. His work endeavors to convey the strength and energy of a moment in time, a routine task, or machinery either at rest or in motion a fine art format.

Robert Cotnoir has exhibited throughout the New York metropolitan area, upstate New York, and Cape Cod, MA, where he has won numerous awards. His works are owned by the NYC Department of Parks, the NYC Department of Labor, as well as private businesses and collectors throughout the region.
