Larchmont's New Parking Fees, Don't Feed The New Meters Just Yet
Larchmont is preparing to "go live" with paid parking. There is no need to feed the meters until parking fees start later this year.

LARCHMONT, NY — Parking in the Village of Larchmont will soon be a bit more complicated and just a touch more expensive.
The village is busy installing new pay stations ahead of a move to paid parking. Plans do not call for the pay stations to be operational for several weeks. In the meantime, legal street parking will remain free of charge. The exception will be in spaces where older-design parking meters have been in place for years (mostly near the Larchmont train station).
The village promises to provide ample notice before drivers will need to pay for parking. When paid parking goes live, visitors will have the option of either paying the hourly fees at the newly installed pay stations or through an app available for download on mobile devices.

After years of study and a comprehensive report completed last year on parking needs in the village’s retail districts by BFJ Planning, the village board voted to begin implementing plans for paid parking. Village Administrator Justin Datino reported to the elected officials that the move would not only provide a source of revenue that could be reinvested in the downtown area, but would also benefit businesses by making parking more readily available.
The BFJ study cited economic analysis and conclusions from the book “The High Cost Of Free Parking” by Donald C. Shoup in its 2020 report to the village board.

Parking downtown will likely be a little more confusing in the near term with pay stations installed, but not yet ready for use, apps to download to mobile phones and new overtime limits. The village says that in addition to releasing plenty of updates on the changes as they come into effect, staff will be made available to answer any questions at 914-834-6230.
