Mamaroneck HS Alum, Colgate Friend Launch Home Cooking App Called 'Chicory'
Two Colgate students, one of whom graduated from Mamaroneck High School, have launched a home cooking app and company called Chicory, which is dedicated to helping people eat healthy.
A new company started by Yuni Sameshima, a 2009 Mamaroneck HS alumnus, wants you to put down the takeout menu and cook more meals at home instead.
The company, Chicory, connects your favorite recipes to local online grocery companies, providing an easy to use tool that lets you discover recipes you’ll love to cook, instantly create the perfect shopping list, and get ingredients and regular groceries delivered.
It’s a 100% free tool for the web and is currently live in Larchmont and Mamaroneck.

“It’s inspiring, easy to use, and offers lots of healthy and fun recipes,” says Patricia Dsupin, Larchmont resident.
With Chicory, Patricia and other busy home cooks can find thousands of delicious meals and get everything delivered with just a few clicks. It saves you time, money, and helps reduce food waste since Chicory’s shopping list automatically selects the best quantity products for the meals you’re making and the lowest price brands (although you can choose your favorites too).

Sameshima, who grew up in Mamaroneck, thinks that Chicory can do some real good for busy people and families in the area that want to cook more often and eat healthier.
“Today, finding recipes everyone will eat, having enough time to shop for groceries, and corralling the entire family for a homemade meal are real struggles.” Sameshima notes, “And while we can’t force families to sit around their dinner tables, we can help more people cook more often.”
Sameshima and Joey Petracca started the company in 2013 while attending Colgate University. The idea evolved from their mutual passion for cooking and healthy eating.
