Mamaroneck Man Inducted Into Westchester Sports Hall Of Fame

The induction dinner will be Oct. 18.

MAMARONECK, NY — Four Westchester sports legends, including a Mamaroneck resident, are the newest to be inducted into the Westchester Sports Hall Of Fame.

Lakeland field hockey and lacrosse coach Sharon Sarsen, long-time Fox Lane wrestling coach Joe Amuso, Fordham golf coach Paul Dillon, and Iona College basketball record-holder Kevin Bass were inducted by the selection committee Wednesday night.

  • Sarsen has 617 wins in 36 years coaching varsity field hockey. She also had 381 wins as girls lacrosse coach, giving her a total of 998 varsity victories. Lakeland's second win in the upcoming fall field hockey season will be her 1,000th. Sarsen's field hockey teams have won 12 state titles, including a current steak of nine in a row. Her lacrosse teams won 10 Section 1 titles.
  • Amuso coached the Fox Lane wrestling team for 41 years, and has also coached at Somers and Mahopac. He is the Section 1 all-time leader in career dual-meet wins, with 406, and his teams have won five Section 1 team titles.
  • Dillon, born in New Rochelle, attended Stepinac and Iona College and lives in Mamaroneck. In 22 years as Fordham golf coach, he has amassed an impressive record in both dual meets and tournaments. In addition, he is also very active in the Westchester golf community, currently serving as president of the Metropolitan Golf Association.
  • Bass starred for Alexander Hamilton, then went on to a storied career at Iona. He graduated in 1977 as the Gaels' all-time scoring leader, with 1,729 points.
