Mamaroneck Wants To Help Make Your Lawn Beautiful, But Safe

MAMARONECK, NY — Since this is the time of year when a homeowner’s fancy turns to thoughts of lawn care and landscaping, the Town of Mamaroneck wants to make sure this spring garden love story has a happy, safe and environmentally friendly ending.

On May 19, at 7 p.m., the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Healthy Yards Project will partner with the Larchmont Public Library to offer residents a free, interactive Zoom presentation focusing on the effects of pesticides on public health. The webinar will be led by Sarah Evans, Assistant Professor, of Environmental Medicine at Mount Sinai’s Icahn School of Medicine.

Evans is an expert on the effects of environmental chemical exposure on nervous system development and child behavior. During the online meeting, she will share her research on the growing scientific evidence about the harmful impact of common pesticides on children and adults, especially during pregnancy.

Evans will also offer her insights about current pesticide regulations and provide a few simple steps homeowners can take to reduce their exposure to harmful gardening chemicals.

The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Healthy Yards Project was formed with the goal of helping residents maintain safe, appealing, and sustainable lawns and gardens. The project is an initiative of the Town of Mamaroneck Sustainability Collaborative Volunteer Committee. The committee was created to advise officials on an array of environmental issues.
