Mini Golf Comes to Larchmont!

Third Annual Larchmont Open Mini-Golf Tournament Set for Sunday, February 9

The Friends of the Larchmont Public Library are announcing the third annual Larchmont Open Miniature Golf Tournament, scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 9, from 11:00am until 3:00pm, inside the Larchmont Public Library. The tournament is open to all ages and works as a unique fund-raising event that benefits the library. There will also be a special tee-off opening reception, auction and raffle for adults held in the library from 6:00 to 9:00pm on Saturday, February 8. Advance tickets are required for the Saturday reception; greens fees for Sunday family play may be purchased in advance or at the door.

Nearly 200 individuals played Mini Golf in the debut tournament that was held in February 2018 and last year’s tournament saw even greater participation. Combined ticket sales, sponsorships and items that were auctioned during the 2019 tournament raised over $15,000 for the Larchmont Public Library. As in previous years families, individuals and businesses are sponsoring each of the 18 tees and greens along the library mini-golf course, making the tournament a community-wide event. In addition, the Friends are asking local merchants and businesses to contribute a wide range of items for the Saturday evening auction and raffle. Headline offerings include two week- long grounds passes for the 2020 U.S. Open Golf Championship to be played at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, and rounds of golf for foursomes at both Hampshire and Bonnie Briar Country Golf Clubs.

"We held our first ever mini-golf tournament in 2018 and it was a resounding success", said Rich Levy, President of the Friends of the Larchmont Public Library. "Not only did we exceed our expectations in raising funds for the Library, it was great to see so many kids and adults come out in the depths of winter for some library-based fun, supporting the Library while playing mini-golf inside it. And even better that participation grew for our second tournament in 2019! Everyone had a great time doing it! Because the Library is a centerpiece of our community, we have every reason to hope that our third Mini-Golf event will be an even bigger success in support of the Larchmont Public Library."

To facilitate the Larchmont Open, the Friends of the Larchmont Public Library are again partnering with LMG Library Mini Golf based in Trumbull, CT. LMG grew out of an idea to raise money to aid Gulf Coast libraries that had experienced damage from Hurricane Katrina. The public library in Trumbull, CT, hosted the very first min-golf tournament inside a library in the Fall of 2005, turning the library into a complete 18-hole miniature golf course. Needless to say, the event was a tremendous success and the company now works with public and private libraries throughout the country.

The Friends of the Larchmont Library are interested residents who contribute to the Library in important ways. Government funding alone cannot finance the Library’s needs and the range of cultural events that our community currently enjoys. The Friends of the Larchmont Public Library, an independent 501c(3) not-for-profit organization, provides funding for books, equipment, museum passes, and other needs as well as sponsoring programs of community and family interest.
