Owner Of Walter's Hot Dogs Dies At Age 95
Eugene Warrington took over the family business in the 1950s.
MAMARONECK, NY — Flowers are being left at the iconic Walter’s Hot Dogs in Mamaroneck after people have learned the owner of the stand died Saturday. Eugene Warrington was the son of Walter Warrington, who founded the business which has a roadside stand on Palmer Avenue.

The iconic copper-roofed pagoda-like stand, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, will be closed through Thursday.

According to his obituary, Warrington was a life-time Mamaroneck resident.
He was a Mamaroneck High School Hall of Famer and vice president of his senior class.

Warrington served in the Navy during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific.
He took over the family business in the 1950s.
Locally, Warrington served as a district leader for the Republican Party for 20 years and belonged to the American Legion, Elks and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his daughters Christine Warrington and Jeanne Fellows, grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Calling hours wil be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home, 767 East Boston Post Rd. in Mamaroneck.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Saints John and Paul Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Joseph’s Indian School.
In July, the Daily Meal named Walter’s Hot Dogs one of the 75 best hot dogs stands in the United States. It made the list at No. 31, ahead of Nathan’s Famous in Coney Island, which landed at No. 44.
