Mesmerized by water, Patricia Lescop has long-been inspired by the sea’s majesty. “Trying to capture in oil paint on canvas, the waves rolling, crashing, trickling onto the shore soothes my turbulent soul”, said Lescop. “The droplets of water sparkling in the sun bring cheer channeling my emotions of tranquility and fulfillment. The profound deep feeling that all will be well in the world is achieved by the hard work and long, not always easy, hours at the easel. Hopefully my interpretations will bring joy to others. My stillness flowing”.
Five years ago, more or less, Patricia decided to focus on the sea in all its splendor. Feeling so fortunate to have an array of magnificent oil paints, she mixed and matched till just the right hue appeared on the palette. Studying the different combinations was a great help and making charts and comparing them was a very helpful exercise. Working on understanding flickering, changing light and the ebb and flow of the water have been her constant companions.

Many people along the way inspired Patricia - great artists and great professors - especially, Dr. George MacNeil who mentored Patricia at Pratt Institute. “He was an amazing painter and witty art historian”, she said. “He pushed me to see the abstract in reality. And with humility, I think of Matisse when he wrote: ‘What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter - a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.’”
Patricia dedicates her exhibit to Daniel Lescop who opened so many doors for her and is her rock, and best friend. The exhibit is on view in the Oresman Art Gallery at the Larchmont Public Library throughout February.
