Woman Drives Drunk With Children In Car: Police

Police said she was initially pulled over for a traffic violation.

MAMARONECK, NY — A Connecticut woman faces a felony charge for having children in her car while driving drunk, according to the authorities. State police said Elizabeth F. Rich, 35, of Madison, Connecticut, was stopped by police on I-95 for a vehicle and traffic violation.

Police said she was intoxicated and had a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old in the car.

She was taken into custody and processed at the Tarrytown barracks.

The children were turned over to a responsible party.

Police said Rich's blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.15 percent.

She was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle (Leandra's Law), a felony, endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and several vehicle and traffic violations.

Rich was released to a sober third party with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Mamaroneck Court Sept. 5.
