It was a tough afternoon for the Lindenhurst High School boys’ lacrosse team as the Bulldogs fell to West Islip 14-3 in an opening round playoff game Thursday at West Islip High School.
West Islip controlled the first half as goals by Mike Moynihan and Matt McCallan 36 seconds apart gave the Lions an early 2-0 lead. Lindenhurst would respond 16 seconds after McCallan’s goal as the Bulldogs Dan Alazraki scored on a nifty one-handed jump shot to cut the lead to 2-1.Â
But the Lions would respond in a big way scoring the game’s next 11 goals to take a 13-1 lead at the half. The offensive barrage by West Islip was lead by senior Matt McCallan (4 goals, 1 assist), junior Mike Moynihan (3 goals, 1 assist) and freshman Connor Smith (3 goals, 1 assist).Â
For Lindenhurst, Alazraki accounted for the team’s 3 goals and Mike Renick had 2 assists. The Bulldogs finish the season at 11-6.
