Drunken Lindenhurst Man Drives Into Canal: Police
Exel Argueta, 22, of Lindenhurst, was charged with driving while intoxicated after police said he crashed into a canal in Copiague.
COPIAGUE, NY — A Lindenhurst man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his car into a canal in Copiague Wednesday night, according to Suffolk police.
Officers responded to West Riviera Drive near the intersection of East Hampton Road after a 911 caller reported a car in the canal at 10:40 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found the driver, 22-year-old Exel Argueta, escaped the car and was back on land, police said. The officers determined he was drunk, police said.

Argueta was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of hypothermia. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
