Gordon, Garbarino Discuss Environmental Issues
The two candidates for the 2nd congressional district participated in a forum to discuss how they plan to tackle LI's environmental issues.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Candidates for the second congressional district spoke about Long Island's environmental issues and their plans to solve some of those issues during a forum hosted by the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund.
Republican candidate Andrew Garbarino and democratic candidate Jackie Gordon, both vying for the seat left open by longtime representative Peter King, answered questions regarding reducing greenhouse gases, solar energy and off shore wind energy.
Gordon first stated that while individuals have a part to play in addressing climate change, the federal government has a part to play too.

"First things first, we have to re-enter into the Paris Climate Agreement because as a nation we have a responsibility to address climate change and to join with our global partners to make sure that we do," she said during the forum.
Garbarino also expressed the importance of prioritizing environmental efforts on Long Island, emphasizing the fact that he served on the environmental conservation committee while working as a member of assembly. He also stated how he has been pro-environment over the years and that it should be bi-partisan issue.

"I plan to continue that fight in Congress," he said.
When asked about solar investment tax credit, both candidates expressed their support for extending the incentive for businesses and individuals. This allows both residents businesses to deduct 26 percent of the cost of installing a solar energy system from their federal taxes with no cap on its value. Both also agreed on supporting innovative ideas for cleaner energy sources.
When asked about clean water, Gordon expressed her concern on the contamination of the Bethpage Plume and stated she will support bills to clean up the plume. Meanwhile Garbarino stated how during his time as assemblyman, he has voted for bills that banned products contaminating the aquifer and plans to continue to reduce the amount of chemicals in the water.
