Press release from the Incorporated Village of Lindenhurst:

March 26, 2021

On a cold, winter day the sun broke through the clouds as the Village of Lindenhurst kicked off construction of a 362kW Solar PV Carport at the LIRR Commuter Parking Lot. This state-of-the-art, renewable energy solar carport project is part of the Village’s Energy Solutions Project in partnership with Johnson Controls, a leader in energy-efficient technology. The partnership is creating opportunities for the Village to produce clean, renewable energy at various Village-owned facilities, and the production of solar energy at the Commuter Lot is a key part of this sustainability commitment. When the project is completed, it is expected to generate enough electricity to power about 50 homes and reduce the Village’s carbon footprint.

Trustee Patrick Pichichero said, “This is an ideal location because the sun is unobstructed here, and it will also offer our commuters the added benefit of vehicle protection in inclement weather. We are looking to move forward with as much “green” development as we can, to generate as much savings for the taxpayers as we can.

“We are really at the forefront, or the cutting edge, of trying to become a sustainable community in the Village of Lindenhurst,” added Trustee RJ Renna.

“I am extremely proud and privileged to partner with the Village of Lindenhurst,” said Chris Fitzsimmons of Johnson Controls. “With 11 buildings slated for energy efficient and capital upgrades, two parks and all Village streets benefiting from LED lighting, and this premier renewable energy solar carport structure, the Village leaders have paved the way for the future focus of Long Island municipalities and energy cost savings.”

Trustee Pichichero continued, “I believe it is incumbent upon us in Village Government to utilize solar technology, transitioning us away from fossil fuels, and creating a positive impact on the environment. We are proud to be in partnership with Johnson Controls, and taking these steps to achieve local environmental goals, at no cost to our taxpayers.”
