January 2: What's Happening Around Lindenhurst

BOE meeting, new library reading program among the highlights for the first week of 2013.

It’s the second day of 2013, and Lindenhurst is beginning to return to normal after a busy holiday season. As the kids head back to school, and parents head back to work, there are a host of events happening this week across our community.

Did you make a New Year’s resolution? If so, share it with your neighbors and us and we’ll share your feedback at the end of the week.

The Lindenhurst Board of Education gets an early start on 2013 with a meeting Wednesday night, 8 p.m., at McKenna.

At the library, the Ice Cream for Books program kicks off on Wednesday. Designed for youngsters Kindergarten to 8th grade, participants should bring their folder to the children’s room weekly for prizes. Readers who make four visits will receive entry into a raffle.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency remains in place at the library from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Assistance for victims of Hurricane Sandy is being provided.

Local civic associations will also gather for their first meetings of 2013. The Rotary Club meets Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Lindenhurst Diner. The Kiwanis Club will also meet Thursday, at 7 p.m. at 101 East Montauk Highway.
