Since its inception, Lindenhurst Community Cares (LCC) members are dedicated to insuring our schools and streets are safe. LCC offers assistance to help residents find much needed resources for combating any issues they are facing with regard to illegal substance abuse. As well, local, state and federal officials are providing support on many levels. On January 22, LCC brought many local community-based organizations together to discuss their mission and goals for improving the quality of life in our area. Highlights include presentations from Kevin McCaffrey, Suffolk County Legislator, Tom Donnelly, Supervisor, Town of Babylon, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Adopt a House Program, Senator Phil O’Boyle’s office, Deputy Mayor of Lindenhurst, Heer Park and Daniel Street Civic Associations, Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce as well as the Rotary Club and the student peer leaders of the Eyes Wide Open program at the Lindenhurst High School. This spirited effort will hopefully pave the way to keeping our community vibrant and united against substance abuse. We cannot afford to lose one more child.
The next general meeting will present a parent forum, to be held on February 26, 2015 at the Lindenhurst Middle School on Wellwood Avenue. Come hear from people who have lived this life, law enforcement and medical personnel who see the consequences every day, and treatment professionals trying to help those impacted by addictions. Learn what you need to know about current substance abuse trends! Find out how to keep your family safe, and how to get help for yourself or a loved one.
To find out about what’s going on in your community, join the official LCC Facebook page. In addition to keeping up with LCC programs, other community-based groups are welcome to join and share their events and announcements.
