Lindenhurst Football Plays in Long Island Championship Friday

A week after capturing the Suffolk Division I title with a win over Patchogue-Medford, the Lindenhurst High School football team is set to play in the Long Island Championship on Friday.

The game against Syosset starts at noon at Hofstra University’s Shuart Stadium. Admission is $7.

Besides the glory of a Long Island championship, the winner of Friday’s game will also be treated to dinner on the dime of either Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer or Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto.

With Lindenhurst and Syosset High Schools set to meet for the Long Island Class I Football Championship this Friday, Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto have placed a friendly wager on the game’s outcome. If the Syosset Braves defeat the Lindenhurst Bulldogs, Supervisor Schaffer will treat the winning team to “All You Can Eat Wings” at local Lindenhurst staple, Duffy’s Wing House. In turn, if Lindenhurst captures the championship, Supervisor Venditto will take the Bulldogs out for a family style pasta dinner at Syosset’s Steve’s Piccola Bussola II.

“I can tell you that the Lindy Bulldog football players are fired up and ready to represent Lindenhurst and Suffolk on the field,” said Babylon Supervisor Schaffer. “I’m looking forward to joining the team in enjoying some of Syosset’s finest Italian food after they capture the Long Island Championship this Friday.”

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto, a lifelong football fan, said he was looking forward to a great game. “The Syosset High School football team has had an incredible season and my colleagues and I on the Oyster Bay Town Board are exceptionally proud of their success,” Supervisor Venditto said. “I believe their 2014 campaign will conclude with not only a Long Island Championship, but an opportunity to eat outstanding wings prepared by Duffy’s Wing House.”

“Our whole community is proud of the remarkable accomplishments of this group of young men already, and we’re looking to forward to them bringing home the Long Island Championship to Lindenhurst” said Lindenhurst Village Mayor Tom Brennan.

The teams will play this Friday at noon, at Hofstra University’s Shuart Stadium. Lindenhurst is coming off capturing its first Suffolk County title since 1972, after defeating 3 teams they had lost to earlier this year, culminating with a late comeback victory over Patchogue-Medford. Syosset just won the Nassau County Class I title for the first time since 1974 with a 4th quarter win over top-seed Baldwin.
