Lindenhurst School Sports Cancelled for Friday

Blizzard forces postponement of games on Friday; varsity girls basketball game on Thursday moved to 2 p.m.

The Lindenhurst School District has announce the cancellation of multiple sporting events throughout the district on Thursday and Friday due to the imminent blizzard.

A Thursday junior varsity basketball game was cancelled by the district today with no rescheduled make-up date announced at this time.

All games and events for Friday, January 3 have been postponed, according to the district, including:

  • Varsity and Junior Varsity Boys Basketball vs Bay Shore (Rescheduled for Saturday, January 4 at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.)
  • Varsity and Junior Varsity Wrestling vs Central Islip (Rescheduled for Monday, January 6 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.)
One game is still scheduled to play today, according to Lindenhurst Schools public information officer Carol Hauser – the varsity girls basketball game originally scheduled to start at 4 p.m. against Bay Shore is still on. The game will be played at  p.m. however.

An earlier report from Newsday stated that Section XI, the organization in charge of Suffolk County high school sports, had cancelled today's games. Lindenhurst officials did not have confirmation on that piece of information at this time.

Lindenhurst Schools were still on holiday vacation through January 3 and were not opened on Thursday or Friday this week.
