Lindy Docks Now Open during the Day (Photos)

The Village is giving Lindenhurst residents limited access to the Charles J. Cowan Marina during the day, but closing it at night.

Lindenhurst residents enjoyed Tuesday's record-high temperatures by heading to the recently opened the Charles J. Cowan Marina (Lindy Docks).

Lindenhurst Patch took a spin through the opened Marina on April 9 and snapped a few Lindy Lens photos of residents who discovered it was open, as well.

Patch first reported last month the Village wanted to open the Docks the weekend after the first day of Spring. It was announced at the March 19 Board meeting.

But after resident reports that weekend the Docks weren't opened, Patch learned from Village officials the announcement at that meeting had been a little premature.

They discovered they needed to complete some safety and security measures in order to open them, but they were looking to open them soon.

And, according to Village Administrator Shawn Cullinane who spoke with Patch on April 9, the Village opened the Docks at the end of last week.

The Marina sustained damage to the East side of boardwalk and to a small section on the West side that connects to Chateau La Mer during Hurricane Sandy last October. The superstorm also knocked out electric, water and gas to the Marina.

However, residents are able to enjoy limited access described at the March 19 meeting now while the Village looks to begin making repairs.

That limited access includes foot and car traffic with limited parking during the day being okay, but the Docks would close at night thanks to a safety gate that's now been installed, and there would be no boat docking or access.

And soon, when permits begin being issued by the Village for the year, said Cullinane, fishing and crabbing off the West and South side of the Docks would be okay during the day.

The Village is also said at the end of last month the Lindenhurst Fire Department was working to get the boats it uses for fire and rescue back into the water. The LFD has a floating dock on the East side.
