Lindy Weekend Planner: SpringFest, NY Senior America Pageant at LHS

Here's a list of events happening in Lindenhurst and in nearby communities, May 3 to 5.

The Kentucky Derby is also on Saturday and Cinco de Mayo is Sunday.

Residents will be able to enjoy SpringFest from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 12:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 5. More information could be found here and here.

The Knights of Columbus-OLPH Ladies’ Auxiliary hosts a BUNKO night on Friday in Lindenhurst at 7 p.m. Admission is $10. Refreshments will be served, and there’ll be raffles. For tickets call Cathy Connors at 631-226-2879. No tickets will be sold at the door.

On Friday, May 3, 911 Veterans will be presenting two checks to two veterans in need at the VFW Post 7279 in Lindenhurst, according to information tweeted to @LindyPatch. A car donated by a Gold Star mother who lost her son in combat will also be given to a Vietnam veteran in need. The event starts at 6 p.m. It’s open to the public to attend.

According to the Lindy Manpower Facebook page on Monday, “We’re looking for volunteers who would be interested in painting this Saturday. It’s for a project to get one of our senior citizens back into her home, and we’re short on helping hands. If you have a few hours to help out, then it’d be greatly appreciated. You can private message us here [on the Facebook page] for the information."

And according to the Lindy Manpower Facebook page on Friday, “Looking for volunteers to help Lindy Manpower with an outdoor clean-up at an Army Veteran's home in Lindenhurst this Saturday morning. If you want to bring some muscle or donate food for lunch, then please inbox Katie or send a message here [on the Facebook page]...thanks, friends!"

The NSLIJ Mobile Health Van is in Lindenhurst at Shore Road Park on Monday, May 6 and 13, and at the Village's Rainbow Center on Saturday, May 4 and 11, to aid Hurricane Sandy victims, according to Village of Lindenhurst's Deputy Mayor Kevin McCaffrey (text VOL to 411247 for updates from the Village’s text messaging system)

Catch a performance of the award-winning musical Groucho, a Life in Revue in Lindenhurst at 8 p.m., Saturday, and 2 p.m., Sunday, at the BACCA Arts Center.

On Saturday Babylon Town is hosting two events. One is the 10th Annual Witness Walk to raise breast cancer awareness that begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Wyandanch Senior Nutrition Center and ends at Town Hall in Lindy. Click here for more details. And the other is the Annual Earth Day Celebration at Town Hall, from 11 .am. to 2 p.m. Click here for more details.

On Sunday the Lindenhurst Fire Department will hold EMS day at the main house on South Wellwood Avenue. The open house event will feature free blood pressure readings, CPR demonstrations and a demo of the extrication process at a motor vehicle accident with the Hurst tool and spreaders, according to information shared with Lindenhurst Patch by LFD member Jennifer Price. Health information packets will also be available.

Christ Episcopal Church and Sumpwams Garden Club invite you to a free program on Saturday to learn on how to deal with your landscape after being flooded. The program will take place at 9 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Babylon. Call 631-661-5757 to register.

According to information posted by Senator Charles Fuschillo, Jr., on Lindenhurst Patch’s page, “This Saturday, May 4, we’re sponsoring a Shed the Meds program where residents can safely dispose of their expired or unwanted medications. The program will take place between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Copiague Middle School. If you have any questions, then please call my office at 516-882-0630."

The Deer Park Community Center is hosting an adults-only Rock and Bowl fundraiser on Friday night beginning at 8:30 p.m. at Deer Park Bowl. Tickets include a hero, soda, coffee, tea and desserts, shoes and four hours of bowling. Open bar options are also available.

There’ll be a Blood Drive at Saint Paul's Reformed Church in North Babylon on Saturday at 10 a.m. Call Julia Miller at 917-834-7266 for more information.

The West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition is hosting a benefit at Biddy Spratts on Sunrise Highway in West Islip on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. Admission is $10 at the door, and includes a free buffet. There’ll also be raffles and live music. Proceeds will go toward the WIBCC's LI2Day Walk Team.
