LIRR: Broken Rails Disrupt Morning Commute

Lindenhurst commuters can expect cancellations and delays.

Long Island Rail Road passengers face a rough commute Friday morning due to broken rails reported in Westbury, Great Neck, Babylon and Bay Shore.

At 9:33 a.m, the LIRR said it was operating hourly service on the Port Washington Branch. And at 9:23 a.m., the LIRR said there are 20-30 minute delays system-wide due to a broken rail near Westbury, a broken rail in Babylon, and another broken rail in Bay Shore.

Westbound Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, and Babylon trains are making all local stops to Jamaica, the LIRR reported.

The Long Beach and West Hempstead branches appear to be operating on schedule, according to the LIRR .

No word yet on whether the broken rails will impact the evening commute.
