LML Renovations Are Progressing
The mezzanine is expected to reopen at the end of this week, with the children's room next on the upgrade list, says Lindenhurst Memorial Library Director Peter Ward.
The renovations at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library are moving forward, with the mezzanine expected to reopen at the end of this week.
Once that section reopens, LML Director Peter Ward told Lindenhurst Patch on Wednesday, May 15, the next section to close for renovations is the children's room.
All of this is part of the Going Green at the LML effort that started with the mezzanine a little more than a month ago.Â
The $1.1 million capital improvement project involves replacing the two large, 40-year-old HVAC units with six smaller, more energy-efficient rooftop units.
It also involves replacing original ceilings and fluorescent lighting with new, more energy-efficient LED lighting and a new, more sound-absorbing suspended ceiling using acoustical tiles.
The library has remained open during the upgrades, with the replacement of the lighting and ceiling in the mezzanine close to completion.
"The meeting room is done, too," noted Ward.Â
"The children's room will start on Monday," he continued. "It'll be closed with the most popular children's materials available in other parts of the library [while it's being renovated]."
Ward also said any scheduled children's programs that would take place there would either occur in other parts of the library or in the library's outdoor entertainment area.
The director also said the new HVAC units should be installed within the next month.
"The duct work is being put in now," he said.
The LML will continue to remain open while the upgrades take place, and they're expected to be completed in August.
"Everything so far is on schedule and on budget," Ward noted.
"Residents will really be pleased with how much better the sound and the lighting is after this is all done," he added.
