Long Island Forecast: Scorching Hot With a Side of Thunderstorms

Long Island could hit the 90-degree mark for five straight days if the latest National Weather Service forecast proves accurate.

The stretch of steamy weather kicks off on Friday, when the high is expected to be near 91. The heat index (which factors in humidity) could reach 96 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible from Friday afternoon through the night.

Heat index values will reach the upper-90s Friday in New York City, which will be under a heat advisory from noon Friday until 7 p.m. Saturday.

A low probability of showers and thunderstorms will remain Saturday morning. On Saturday, the high temperature is expected to be near 94 on Long Island.

The hot air will then stick around from Sunday through Tuesday, with showers and thunderstorms possible on Monday.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 96. Southwest wind 9 to 16 mph.

Friday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Southwest wind 8 to 16 mph.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. West wind 6 to 11 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 73. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 75.

Monday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 90.

Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91.
