LINDENHURST, NY — She's the one that loved you first, but mom is much more than that. She’s a friend, a teacher, a counselor, a shoulder to cry on — and maybe one of the toughest women you’ve ever met.

We asked Patch readers in more than 1,000 communities to tell us what their moms mean to them. Nearly 200 people responded, paying tribute not just to moms but sometimes to grandmas, sisters and daughters who deserve recognition for Mother’s Day 2021.

Here’s what Terryann Kearns mammarella of West Babylon had to say about mom Theresa Kearns of Deer Park :

Oh my...Where do I start... MY MOM. Intelligent. Beautiful. Loving. Accomplished. She is the most amazing person that I have ever known. She was selfless to a fault, encouraging, always filled with love and praise for all. My mom put her family first, caring for all of us ...always putting our needs before her own. She was a college graduate and an elementary school teacher before she and my Dad began our family, choosing to raise 5 kids. My mom was always there through good times and bad times. I am the person I am today for one reason, my Mom. She taught me to always play nice in the sandbox, to share with others, to always be nice to others even when they’re not nice, be respectful and most of all have empathy. My Mom always told me “Be happy with who you are and what you have...and if your not then decide to change things so you are happy”. And most importantly “Never be jealous of others”. She taught me how to cook and helped me raise my children. She cared for her mom and my Dad when they became ill. She was always there when we needed her. And my mom was appreciated more then she knew. She loved her family endlessly. What a beautiful person my mom is and was...Thank you for always being the person you are, I love you always and forever. Thank you for teaching me Thank you for preparing me for life Thank you for giving me good values Thank you for helping me understand Thank you for pushing me to learn Thank you for making me strong Thank you for always being there Thank you for helping me to love myself Thank you for loving me unconditionally But most of all, and thank you for being MY MOM
