Police ID Man Killed In West Babylon Crash
The 63-year-old man was killed after his car struck the back of a dump truck on Route 109 Thursday morning, police say.
WEST BABYLON, NY — A West Babylon man was killed in crash between a car and a dump truck in West Babylon Thursday morning, according to Suffolk Police. Scott Derrer, 63, was driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra southbound on Route 109 when his car struck the back of a 1996 International Harvester dump truck on Route 109 at 7:40 a.m.
Derrer was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the dump truck, a 60-year-old Lindenhurst man, and a passenger were not injured.
The Hyundai was impounded for a safety check. Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Safety Section officers inspected the dump truck at the scene.
