COPIAGUE, NY - After months of contemplation, Town of Babylon will officially be implementing a paid parking program at the Copiague train station starting in September.

The local LIRR station was previously the only one on the Babylon line to offer completely free parking.

In Lindenhurst, the parking costs $65 a year, Amityville costs $30 a year and in Babylon parking costs $35 a year.

As a result, the town announced in January they have created a Parking Management Plan for the local train station after finding that many of the parking lots in this area are "mostly unregulated."

Officials said studies found the unregulated parking lots attract parkers from surrounding areas and places.

"The Town of Babylon is committed to the revitalization of the heart of downtown Copiague," a message on the Town's website reads. "We are very excited about the positive changes taking place in this area. In order to further our commitment to the revitalization of Copiague, the Town is reviewing the parking supply around the train station and areas that abut the Copiague business district."

Under the new plan, in Copiague parking at the LIRR station will cost a total of $65 a year.
