Reminder: Wellwood Closure, Congestion for Pritchard Funeral

Significant traffic and parking congestion in and around the Lindenhurst Funeral Home for Joseph Pritchard's wake on Thursday and funeral on Friday will continue, according to Village of Lindenhurst officials

Pritchard, 30, was the NYPD officer and Lindenhurst High School graduate who was killed in a crash on the LIE on Monday.

Plus, parts of Wellwood Avenue will be closed on Friday morning due to the funeral services for the fallen officer.

"We'll be shutting down Wellwood Avenue between Hoffman Avenue and Gates Avenue from approximately 9 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m.," Mayor Tom Brennan advised residents on Tuesday.

Pritchard’s wake will continue on Thursday, from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A blessing is being held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Lindenhurst. Interment will follow at Breslau Cemetery on North Monroe Avenue in Lindenhurst.

No other roads will be shut down along the way to Breslau Cemetary, the mayor said.

Residents are still advised to stay away from Wellwood if they don't have to be in the Village on Thursday and Friday, as parking will be limited around the funeral home.

The mayor's also expecting officers from Midtown South to be in Lindenhurst the next couple of days, paying their respects and attending the funeral.
