Story Laurie Captivates Harding Students

Laurie 'Story Laurie' McIntosh, a singer, songwriter and storyteller, entertains students hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.

Laurie “Story Laurie” McIntosh, a singer, songwriter and storyteller, captivated Harding Avenue Elementary School students with her jazzy folk songs played on her guitar.

Her renditions of folk tales from various world cultures also kept students listening and laughing.

“I love going into schools and directing children on the creative process,” said McIntosh.

Story Laurie introduced students to the art of storytelling and songwriting. She incorporated improvisation games to help students develop skills.

She also mixed song writing with one of her other passions - gardening - and sang Homegrown Tomatoes with fourth-grade students.

“I like food, especially things I can grow in my garden,” explained  McIntosh. “So why not create a song about it?”

She produced an album called Groovin’ in the Garden, a mixture of original songs and classics recorded with a twist.

Story Laurie volunteered her services to entertain Harding students after Hurricane Sandy affected so many families whose children attend the school.

“I wanted to give back to the Lindenhurst community,” said McIntosh.

She worked closely with Camp Bulldog, and has donated some of her earnings through the Neighbor to Neighbor family music program.
