Teen Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car In Amityville

The 18-year-old driver initially left the scene of the fatal crash but later returned, police say.

AMITYVILLE, NY — A teenage pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car in Amityville early Sunday, according to Suffolk Police.

An 18-year-old Amityville man was driving a 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML430 northbound on Route 110 when the car struck 18-year-old Jose Perez, also of Amityville who was crossing the road at Coolidge Avenue at 2:20 a.m.

The driver initially left the scene but returned a few minutes later in the car involved in the crash.

Perez was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6553. All calls will be kept confidential.
