Village Eyes Security System Upgrade
A security expert is coming to first review the Village's current camera system, and offer a plan for upgrade.
Lindenhurst Village is bringing in a security expert to review its current camera system.
According to Village Administrator Shawn Cullinane, this in an effort to move forward with plans to improve its current network of security cameras positioned in various public areas like Village Hall, Village Park and Village Square, as well as the Charles J. Cowan Marina (Lindy Docks) where Hurricane Sandy damaged many sections, including the cameras there.
To that end the Board voted at the May 7 meeting to bring in Suffolk Lock Security Professionals Incorporated of Lindenhurst to provide a security surveillance assessment and proposal for the Village.
This will cost $2,000, and will be paid from the 2013-14 general fund budget.
"We're hiring someone to come in and look at what we have, and tell us what we need - whether it's better software or better cameras, what kind, etc. - to tie everything together and have it feed back to one point, like Code Enforcement, so we can better see everything and do it remotely," Cullinane told Lindenhurst Patch last Wednesday.
Prior to this step Cullinane said the Village put out an RFP to get some preliminary information about security systems.
The Village learned that there might be money out there that might be able cover the cost of an upgrade. It also learned there might be equipment available, as well.
But the Village would first need a complete plan for what it needed for an upgrade.
"The consultant will lay out a plan for us," Cullinane said.
That needs to be completed before the Village moves forward with the process of upgrading the security system.
