Village Still Working to Open Lindy Docks
Citing security and resident safety issues, Village officials are still working on preparations that'll allow the reopening of the Charles J. Cowan Marina to the public.
Residents heading to the Charles J. Cowan Marina (Lindy Docks) this past weekend after learning it was going to open to foot and car traffic were disappointed.
Security and Safety Issues
The Docks weren't reopened this weekend due to some security and resident safety issues, Village officials told Lindenhurst Patch.
"When we said last week [at the Board meeting on Tuesday, March 19,] we were opening the Marina this past weekend, it might've been a little too soon to say that," Mayor Tom Brennan said.

"There were problems with part of the fencing needed to secure the Marina," he said.
Deputy Mayor Kevin McCaffrey said that particular part of the fencing they were having a problem securing is supposed to keep people from the damaged areas of the Docks.

"The sliding gate on the entrance to the dock also took longer than expected to complete," he added.
"There's also some work to be done on the benches, and some small potholes to repair," Village Administrator Shawn Cullinane noted.
"Every time we looked there was something else that needed to be done, a lot of odds and ends," he said. "So it might've been a rush to judgement to open the Marina this past weekend."
Another problem is the Marina is without electric or water - as well as gas - thanks to the damage the Marina sustained on the East side of Docks during Hurricane Sandy on October 29.
"We need to close the Marina at night because we don't yet have electric or lights on the Docks," McCaffrey said.
Safety First
"We want to get it open as soon as possible, but we need to make safety the first priority," McCaffrey added.
Mayor Brennan agreed, adding the Village is working diligently to get the Marina open "soon."
And when the Village does it'll be for limited access, as described at last week's meeting: foot and car traffic with limited parking during the day would be okay, fishing and crabbing off the West and South side of the Docks would be okay during the day, but the Docks would close at night and there would be no boat docking or access.

LFD Boats at the Docks
The Mayor also said the Lindenhurst Fire Department was working to get the boats it uses for fire and rescue back into the water. The LFD has a floating dock on the East side.
"They have a floating dock, so if we can get a gate for them, then we'd like to work something out where we can their boats into water. That's a valuable asset to have back in service there," Cullinane noted last week.
