Winner Declared In Suffolk County 15th Legislative District Race
Residents hit the polls on Tuesday during a special election to choose a representative to take over the seat left open by DuWayne Gregory.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — The results are in! After the special election took place on Tuesday, Jason Richberg (D) was chosen to take over the seat left open in Suffolk County's 15th legislative district. According to the unofficial results posted by the Suffolk Board of Elections, Richberg beat out candidates Christopher Connors (R) and Jacqueline Duodu-Burbridge (Working Families). Richberg received a total of 2,022 votes, Connors received 207 votes and Duodu-Burbridge received 217 votes.
"I am beyond grateful for the outpouring of support I received from the community. Spending the past few months walking the district and having face-to-face conversations with residents where they were free to voice their concerns was an enlightening experience," Richberg said in a statement. "I plan on keeping that open dialogue, acting as an advocate for all of our district residents and making sure they feel heard. I'm excited to get started."
The seat was left opened by DuWayne Gregory, who announced recently he will be stepping down as legislator for the 15th district in order to take over Jackie Gordon's seat on the Town of Babylon board. Gordon announced she will be stepping down to run for Congress.
